The Jaipur Literature Festival has announced a new annual writing competition for budding authors.

Supported by Teamwork Arts, producers of the Festival, the competition is open to applicants from across the world. The competition will give writers in the 18-25 age-group a chance to have their work published on the festival’s official blog, which receives over 1,00,000 hits during the Lit Fest, and get to attend the celebrated event, which will be held through January 21-25, 2015.

Ten successful applicants will receive a bursary covering domestic travel, accommodation and meals, as well as the opportunity to meet and learn from over 250 celebrated and award-winning authors who attend the festival each year.

Sanjoy Roy, Managing Director of Teamwork Arts and Producer of the ZEE Jaipur Literature Festival, said, “ Through this initiative we hope to seed the importance of freedom of thought and expression and create a platform for excellence in writing.”

To apply for the bursary, applicants have to submit book reviews, short stories, literary articles or creative responses of 1,000 words or 50 lines of poetry on any of the festival’s past or upcoming authors and works.
