Cetex Petro plans expansion

Cetex Petrochemicals Ltd. has gone in for expanding its annual production capacity by four-fold to 80,000 tonnes at a cost of Rs.400 crore.

At present, Cextex produces 10,000 tonnes each of Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) and Secondary Butyl Alcohol (SBA), a versatile petrochemical solvent at its plants in Manali, near Chennai.

Briefing reporters , S. Ilanahai, Managing Director, Cetex Petrochemicals, said that Cetex was the only company in South East Asia to produce MEK and SBA. The second unit was commissioned recently with an annual production capacity of 10,000 tonnes.

Third unit

Cetex was in the process of implementing the third unit that would increase the plant capacity to 10,000 tonnes per annum. The unit would be ready by Q4 of 2015, he said.

He said Cetex had acquired Shell Chemicals Houston plant, which would be dismantled and brought to India to produce 50,000 tonnes of Methyl Iso Butyl Ketone and Methyl Iso Butyl Carbinol. It would be commissioned by Q4 of 2016.
