Coal sector strike put off

November 22, 2014 08:28 pm | Updated 08:28 pm IST - KOLKATA

The proposed coal sector strike on November 24 has been called off following discussion between the Central trade unions, who had called the strike, and the Union Coal Ministry officials, in New Delhi on November 22.

Trade union sources said that the strike was called mainly on four policy-related issues which included putting up mines for sale as in the Special Ordinance, move towards disinvestment of CIL shares, demand for allocation of blocks to Coal India Ltd. There were also some service-related matters.

The decision to defer the strike was taken based on assurances that the concerns of the Central Trade Unions would be looked into.

Today’s meeting was attended by the representatives of INTUC, AITUC, HMS and CITU, management representatives from CIL and two Ministry representatives.
