Telecom operators have set up 48,000 new base transceiver stations (BTS) in the last 45 days as part of efforts to curb call drops, according to Manoj Sinha, Minister for Communications (Independent Charge).
While progress made by telecom service providers in improving the quality of service was satisfactory, the improvement had to be felt by customers as well, the Minister said on Monday following his first meeting with telecom operators.
“Telecom was a success story… but has been marred by black spots. We want to make telecom a success story again.
“The progress on targets given to telecos is satisfactory but this should also be felt by the consumers,” he said.
He said initiatives to improve customer experience should encompass data services also.
“We are not anywhere close to the experience required for the success of the Digital India initiative,” he said.
