Samsung S6 Edge with curved screen to come to India in April

The phones go on sale in 20 countries, including India, on April 10

Korean electronics major Samsung unveiled Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, which features a screen that curves around the side of the device. The smartphones, touted as the biggest upgrade in the company’s mobile portfolio yet, will start selling in 20 countries, including India, from April 10.

The success of these devices is important for the company as it is facing stiff competition from Apple globally and domestic handset makers such as Micromax in India. 

S6 and S6 Edge have similar set of specs, curved screen in the Edge being the major difference. They come with 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED screen that offers a pixel density of 577 pixel per inch. Both phones have the world’s first 14 nano meter mobile processor with 64-bit platform, which will make the devices faster compared to any other phone. Samsung claims that the metal used in its handsets is 50 per cent stronger than the materials its rivals employ.

Samsung Electronics Executive Vice President for IT and Mobile Younghee Lee said, “I know for sure that this phone will not bend,” referring to a Apple’s bendgate controversy.With 10 minutes of charging, the devices can work for four hours and take about 80-85 minutes for a full charge.

“From zero to 100 per cent charging, it takes about 50 per cent time less than required to charge iPhone 6,’’ Samsung Electronics Vice President for Product Strategy and Marketing Team Justin Denison said. 

The Edge introduces a couple of features that uses the sides of the curved screen, such as being able to view information like weather, time without turning on the screen. Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge come 5 MP front and 16 MP rear camera with F1.9 lenses. This will help taking better pictures in low light conditions.
