Volkswagen plans to launch India specific car next year

Volkswagen India plans to launch its ‘India specific’ car next year, Thierry Lespiaucq, Managing Director, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd., said here on Friday. Mr. Lespiaucq was here to inaugurate a new dealership and to deliver the 300,000 car in India.

He told presspersons that the company would launch next year the “India specific car” and it would be a compact sedan. He did not give the price details of the car. “We have plans for India. It is a very important market,” he said. “We intend to bring to India more vehicles.” The Volkswagen Beetle is expected to be launched next year in the Indian market.

With regard to ease of doing business in India, Mr. Lespiaucq said that the biggest step would be to move to Goods and Services Tax. “It will make business and investment a lot easier.”

He later told The Hindu , “We do not intend to have any car in the less than Rs. 5-lakh segment.” About 50 per cent its production in India was now exported.
