Online restaurant search firm Zomato on Friday acquired Italy’s restaurant search service Cibando.
The terms of the deal are not disclosed.
Cibando will be integrated with Zomato, and the acquisition is expected to be completed over the next week, Zomato said in a statement.
Cibando has 82,000 restaurants listed across various cities in Italy and has now a 10-member team.
Zomato said it would invest $6 million in Italy over the next two years to grow the team and the business in the country.
The new combined entity will grow to 30-40 people in the next three months and over time the Italy operation is expected to grow to 150-200 people across the top six cities, it added.
“Our immediate focus will be on integrating Cibando into Zomato and on building the most comprehensive restaurant search service for the Italian market. We will also scale up our teams in Rome and Milan to 30-40 full-time employees in the next three months,” Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal said.
This is Zomato’s fifth acquisition. Zomato acquired MenuMania in New Zealand, Lunchtime in Czech Republic, Obedovat in Slovakia, and Gastronauci in Poland recently.
Zomato is present in 20 countries, and is aiming to launch in 15 more countries in the next year or so. The firm gets about 35 million visits per month.
