Kingfisher starts paying salary

November 16, 2012 11:10 pm | Updated 11:10 pm IST - MUMBAI:

Kingfisher Airlines has started paying salaries to employees in batches and employees with low salaries received their May wage on Friday. The rest should be paid in the coming days.

“Payment has been made to those whose monthly salary is below Rs.20,000,” said an employee expressing satisfaction that funds have been arranged to pay the wages.

“We were verbally informed that salary would be credited by Friday as banks remained closed on account of Deepavali. We have been expecting that the management would keep its commitment,” said another employee.

The striking employees had called off their near month-long strike after the management committed that salary for three months up to May would be paid in a staggered manner before Deepavali.

The salary for March was to be paid on October 25, the moment the strike was called off and that for April was credited within a week. But salary for May could not be credited as per promise due to some “unavoidable circumstances.”

Now all eyes are on Kingfisher Airlines Chairman Vijay Mallya as to how and when he would make Kingfisher fly again.
