Sensex gains 29 per cent in six months

Though the Sensex had gained 29 per cent in six months since March 3 to September 2, some of the Sensex constituents have not participated in the rally.

For instance, Infosys quoted at Rs.3,793 on March 3 while on Tuesday (September 2) it ended at Rs.3,611.55 nearly losing 5 per cent. Another IT major Wipro lost 4.7 per cent at Rs.560.60 on Tuesday against Rs.585.65 on March 3. TCS, however, gained more than 26 per cent to Rs.2,539.10 against Rs.2,000.85. While ITC gained 8 per cent to Rs.354.80 from Rs.328.65, Tata Power gained 18 per cent to Rs.89.10 from Rs.75.46.

Major Sensex gainers during the period are: Tata Steel (50.3 per cent), ICICI Bank (55 per cent), State Bank of India (66 per cent), Maruti Suzuki (84.1 per cent) , Sesa Sterlite (59.5 per cent), Axis Bank (63 per cent), Bharti Airtel (37 per cent), Cipla (48.1 per cent), Hero MotoCorp (43 per cent), Hindalco Industries (66 per cent), Larsen & Toubro (44 per cent) and Hindustan Unilever (35 per cent).
