Policy clarity on wind energy sought

July 20, 2015 11:33 pm | Updated 11:33 pm IST - COIMBATORE:

India has the potential to achieve 60 GW of installed wind energy capacity by 2022 provided concerns related to infrastructure and grid are addressed, according to the industry.

Madhusudan Khemka, Chairman of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers’ Association, and D. V. Giri, its Secretary-General, told presspersons here on Saturday that the country aimed to scale up the installed wind energy capacity to 60 GW from the existing 23 GW in seven years. The manufacturers were going to launch the next level of machines that could be installed in low wind sites, they said. The industry was ready with 2.5 MW and 3 MW machines, and also working towards introducing storage solutions, they pointed out.

However, the industry faced State-level challenges. Hence, it needed a blue print, a road map to reach the target, they said. There should be clarity on the policies by the States on wind energy.
