Director K. Balachander continues to remain in hospital, after being shifted to the intensive care unit for treatment of urinary tract infection, according to a press release from Kauvery Hospital.

He was admitted to the hospital on Monday and was being treated for age-related problems. He is critical, but his general condition is stable, the release said.

Meanwhile, in an emotional video message shared through his official page on Facebook, Kamal Haasan, who is in Los Angeles for his upcoming film Uttama Villain , said he had spoken to Mr. Balachander recently, over the phone.

“I want to see him now, but he would not like me returning without completing work on the film,” Mr. Haasan said, noting that Mr. Balachander had been eager to see the finished film. (He plays a role in Uttama Villain .)

“My wishes as always to my master who has taught me the craft that I love so much,” he said. “If possible, please stand up and come, Sir.”
