Actor, singer and television host Sugandha Ram has forced the audiences to take note after by essaying roles in “Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na”, “My Name Is Khan”, “Tere Bin Laden”, “Patang” and “Tere Bin Laden 2” among others.

Her latest film “Coffee Bloom” is set to hit the big screens in India, US and Toronto simultaneously today. The movie being Mannu Warrier’s directorial debut, was screened at Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) last year and received great reviews at the festival as well as the NFDC Film Bazaar.

In a chat with The Hindu, the actor talks about her latest film,

Excerpts from the interview:

What is your role in “Coffee Bloom”?

I play the role of a girl who lives a difficult married life in a coffee plantation and is torn in a perpetual conflict when her past love reappears. She is in a dilemma as she is bound by the marriage ties, a relationship which fails to prosper and is lured by the innocence of true childhood love which did not fructify but was now at her doorstep.

What is the highlight of the film? How do you feel with the movie scheduled for national and international release?

This movie is about romance and passion which intensifies as the movie progresses. The movie is shot at the most beautiful locations situated at stunning coffee plantations. It talks about the hardships in the lives of youngsters and their quest for success despite living a daunting past.

I am really excited. It has the capability and ability to reach out to the audience through its progressive approach with the modern age romance it entails.

How was your experience working with your co-actor Arjun Mathur?

He is a delight to work with. We have been friends since we worked on the sets of “My Name Is Khan” and I consider him to be a great actor. We enjoy each other’s company so much. I remember the best time we have had was when we went skydiving together!

How would you explain your experience of working in a low budget independent film?

Having tasted both sides of the movie productions, that is the big banner ones and the independent ones, I have come to appreciate the small budget films more. I developed strong bonds working in this movie. So much that one could relate to spot boys who were seen very much as part of the filmmaking. The atmosphere of working in a small banner movie is harmonious, family like and satisfying unlike the atmosphere in big banner sets.

Being an actress what is your take on fitness?

I believe the idea of being skinny on screen is ridiculous. You can only look appealing on screen if you have the required fat on your body. When you work for a movie you have to travel to faraway locations and it becomes difficult to keep a watch your diet or eating schedule. So the most I do to keep my body fit is run, swim and avoid junk food.
