Charting his own course
RK and Poonam Kaur team up for Shaji Kailas’ En Vazhi Thani Vazhi. The title seems to be inspired by a dialogue from a Rajinikanth film. “The line was apt to describe the character RK plays in the film. He is an encounter specialist in the police force, but one who charts his own course when it comes to his assignments and responsibilities. He doesn’t go by the book or follow the rules of the department. While Poonam plays his love interest, Meenakshi Deekshit plays a police officer. The story is based on the nexus between politicians and criminals, and although many such films may have been produced, you will surely find the screenplay fresh in En Vazhi Thani Vazhi ,” says Shaji.
Sakshi in a comedy
The title, Thiruttu VCD, has nothing to do with pirated films, says its heroine Sakshi Agarwal. “It actually stands for the names of three characters in the film — Vinod, Chinna and Dilli. The movie is an out-and-out comedy, and to top it all, the irrepressible Senthil is making a guest appearance. As for my role, it begins as a girl-next-door and packs in a lot of suspense; in fact, my real character is revealed only in the climax,” says Sakshi who is excited about her duet with Prabha which was shot at Havelock Island in the Andamans. “While this is a breezy beach song, there is a solo which was shot at a resort near Bangalore,” says Sakshi.
Music, key to Kaaviya Thalaivan
Director Vasanthabalan is attempting to make a proper musical with Kaaviya Thalaivan . Known to take interest in playing a variety of characters is Siddharth, fresh from the success of Jigarthanda . In Kaaviya Thalaivan , A. R. Rahman has composed 14 pieces of music, some full-fledged songs and some interludes. Says Vasanthabalan: “Songs play an important part in the film. Though the theatre/drama sequences form the backdrop of the film, the main story is something very contemporary. Viewers will find it easy to relate to the roles played by Prithviraj and Siddharth.”
