Mahendran and Manishajith in Vindhai

What takes place in a police station in the normal course of a day forms the premise of Lawraa’s directorial debut Vindhai. According to the director, a boy and a girl get arrested while trying to elope, as the girl is under age. “In the police station, a bunch of thugs facing serious charges are being questioned. As the young couple watch the proceedings at the station, they inadvertently get drawn into them, leading to humorous developments,” says Lawraa whose film is releasing on May 1. Vindhai stars Mahendran and Manishajith, both of whom were known for their roles as child artistes in Nattamai and Gambeeram respectively.

A rural love story unfolds

After working as an assistant director to Saravanan on films such as Engeyum Eppodhum and Ivan Vera Mathiri , Palani is striking out on his own with a film titled Oodha . “Every colour represents an emotion. For instance, red represents anger. Similarly, I have attributed Oodha or blue to love. Oodha is a tender love story with family sentiments thrown in. ‘Mirchi’ Sha and Vaidhehi have given excellent performances in this rural drama, shot mostly in Madurai,” says Palani. Oodha is in post-production and the director hopes to release the film soon.

Vaibhav gets busy

Known for his roles in Mankatha, Damaal Dumeel and Kappal , Vaibhav will start working on two films soon. “First off the block will be Kushboo-Sundar C’s Avni Cinemax production to be directed by Bhaskar, who is moving from short films to full-length feature with this. I am paired with Aishwarya Rajesh in this film. Shooting is expected to commence in April. Next up is A. R. Murugadoss’ production under the direction by S. S. Stanley for which casting is going on. This will start rolling by May-end,” says an excited Vaibhav.
