Raitha Dinacharane: The College of Horticultural Sciences, Kolar, organised Raitha Dinacharane (Farmers’ Day) programme at Chitnahalli recently. Thulasiram, scientist, Horticulture College, Bagalkot, inaugurated it.

Addressing the farmers, Mr. Thulasiram stressed on integrated pest control to reap a good mango harvest. This will help farmers become economically stronger, he said.

He also counselled the people for minimal use of water and grow more in the region where the groundwater is available only at a depth of more than 1,000 ft.

Scientists Noorulla Haveri and Maruti provided more information about pest control and system of mango cultivation. “If the quality of mango is not maintained, it will adversely affect the export prospect of the crop and ultimately influence the financial condition of the farmers”, they warned.

Thotli gram panchayat vice-president C.M. Munivenkatappa presided. Agriculture Department officer Sunil spoke.
