Science Day: IQAC and Science Department of Government First Grade College, Malur, observed National Science Day and World Mother Tongue Day at Edusat Hall of the college on February 21.

The chief guest, food technologist K.C. Raghu said: “Mere studying of science was not enough, one must live science”. Adopting a scientific approach is important, he said.

Mr. Raghu elaborated on how the changing food habit is affecting health. If the food we consume becomes the doctor there is no fear of suffering from ill health, he emphasised.

Besides interacting with the students, Mr. Raghu attempted to create interest in science reading among students by exhibiting a number of science books.

Principal of the college and writer Chandrashekhar Nangali explained the importance of using the mother tongue. There was no place for one national language concept in India where hundreds of languages exist, he said.

February 21 is being observed as World Mother Tongue Day as per the 1999 UNESCO declaration.

Mr. Chandrashekhar said one must remember that the developed countries of the world have achieved advancement through the gateway of their respective mother tongues.
