If you are looking at revamping your garden with fun accessories, head to the Garden Store, Alwarpet, and you won’t be disappointed.

The store, which is just over a year old, has an array of quirky pots and planters and accessories in terracotta, bamboo, metal, ceramic and wood (sourced from West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka).

Give your garden space a woodland touch with terracotta animal planters. If space is a constraint, opt for hanging pots, balcony railing pot holders and wall-brackets. Accessorise the space with cute ladybugs, caterpillars, earthworms and butterflies. There is this life-size terracotta dog digging the earth which can be easily mistaken for a real dog.

To escape from the humdrum of urban life, bring in Zen calm with stone and ceramic urns, candles and wind chimes from Auroville. Light up the space at night with granite and bamboo lamps and lanterns.

Whether you have a huge garden or have to make do with a balcony or terrace, it is important to personalise it with beautiful things, says Deepa Vijay, who runs this store along with her husband, Vijay Srinivasan, a marketing consultant. “People abroad take so much pride in their garden space.

We strive to bring nature into homes,” says Deepa, who took a break from a career in social work to pursue her passion in designing beautiful garden spaces.

The store also retails pebbles, hammocks, recycled baskets and bags, soil mix, vermi-compost, sprinklers, watering cans and tool kits, apart from flowering plants, crotons and seeds.

The Garden Store also undertakes customised orders. It plans to organise workshops on gardening in the future.

The store is located at 2/6, Second Main Road, Seethammal Colony, Alwarpet, Chennai. Phone: 044-24360193. Or log on to www.gardenstore.org
