Use green with a variety of colours to liven up your interiors

Summer’s here, and it’s time to freshen up your home. If you’re scouting for a neutral shade to add style and sophistication, can we suggest a brand new colour? Green.

Green is well known as the colour of growth, renewal, regeneration and prosperity. Easy on the eye, green is calming and refreshing. It’s also considered a healing colour (that’s why hospital walls and gear are green) and is said to bring peace of mind, balance circulation and promote regular breathing.

Over the years, green has become to décor what black is to little dresses. Classic and never out of style! The colour has endless possibilities in décor as its infinite variations blend easily with almost every other hue. It is available in a variety of shades, tones and hues; can be dressed up or down; and can be paired with a variety of colours.

•Explore any shade of green — be it asparagus, mantis, shamrock or yellow green. It will be right for your space, provided you use it properly, and pair it with the right colours and accessories.

•Be it hunter, sage, soft celery or deep forest, the world of green is huge. Each hue evokes a different mood. Rule of thumb: The more blue-based a light shade of green, the more refreshing it is.

•Choose olive tones for a cosy and rustic feel, lime and chartreuse for energy, blue-greens for a cool and calming space, and vibrant grass-greens to add a refreshing touch.

•If you don’t like bright shades, don’t even look at neon green or bright lime. Not even if they are trending.

•Shades of green combine particularly well with pink, burnt orange, turquoise, navy, ivory, crisp white, silver and brown.

•Juxtapose your choice of green with vibrant hues such as orange, yellow and blue for energetic spaces; combine with other neutrals like white, black, beige, and brown for sophisticated ones.

•Try using a bold green paint on an accent wall. Or else, make a statement with pretty patterned wallpaper.

•If you’re looking to use green in small doses, add a variety of accessories — throw pillows, vases, artwork and lamps.

•Explore a layered look in green by opting for soft furnishings, be it upholstery, drapes, rugs and linen, in varying shades.

•Give tried and tested combinations of green and brown, green and blue, or green and grey — a brand new spin by exploring various hues and textures.
