Once in a while when I want to explore world cuisines at one go I opt to dine at a hotel which offers a lavishly laid buffet. Currently one of the best or I should say the most talked about restaurant is Shangri la’s Eros Hotels newly opened Tamra. The classy 189 cover multi-cuisine restaurant setup with five live kitchens displaying delicacies from across the world is worth a visit.

Tamra which means copper in Sanskrit has been used as an influence and is quite visible in the interiors as well as the utensils being used to cook and serve food. Tamra also have an a-la-carte menu but I would suggest trying their buffet as it offers some interesting dishes right from the live kitchens. I started from the live sushi counter and had a platter of some assorted sushis followed by dimsums. I enjoyed the prawn har gao but their sushi disappointed me a bit. They were not rolled properly and three sushis came open and broke from the centre. Nevertheless, the rest tasted good with the wasabi. Their wasabi needs a special mention as it was sharp and had that kick which I loved.

The next appetiser I tried was from the Indian section which was the tikka and kabab. Quite regular stuff but made to perfection. I loved the tandoori chicken tikka as it’s rare to get a good tikka in a buffet set up. Also worth a mention is the service staff which takes utmost care of the customers and make them feel as if dining in an a-la-carte restaurant by serving the dishes on table. I believe that an average meal can also be worth remembering if it is served with love and affection which the staff at Tamra does so well.

For the mains I tried the section called ghar ka khana managed by a lady chef offering phulka, homestyle veggies and dals. But one dish which impressed me the most was their tenderloin steak which was done to my preference. Yes a steak from a buffet setup but made right in front of you when you select your meat and order it. Even the roghan josh and the oriental curries were also worth trying. Do keep some space for desserts when you visit Tamra. Their ice-cream counter and the Tamra chocolate finished on table are just too good.

Buffet price: Rs. 2100 plus taxes
