There’s something to be said about sipping steaming milky tea from a kulhad on a rainy evening. That joy multiplies when the tea is accompanied by a variety of desi snacks. I experienced something similar at Moti Mahal Tandoori Trail in Race Course. The eatery has started ‘Chai Time’, from 4.30 p.m. to 7 p.m., during which guests can partake of chhole-bhature, sandwiches, chaats, pav bhaji and more. If you’re really hungry, you can mark the tea for later and begin with some nourishing soups, or if you’d prefer something sweeter, with milkshakes or cold coffee with ice cream.

The eatery offers aloo chaat, crispy corn chaat, channa chaat and some aloo smileys too, ideal if you’re heading there with a child.

I begin with a delicious veg seekh sandwich, packed with with vegetables and carrying a lovely aroma of veggies roasted over charcoal. This is served with some French fries, sauce and a delicious tangy green chutney.

Next up are grilled sandwiches, crispy on the outside and soft inside. The vegetables are done just right and still bear a crunch. It’s time for pav bhaji next. But, what reaches our table last is the super star — chhole bhature with a chhole so delicious you are transported to some streetside in Delhi. It’s creamy, dark and full of flavour. Tear off a piece of the bhatura, dip it into the chhole, and pop it in. Your heart will sing for a long time!
