“Being fit is not about looking good only, it is of utmost importance to have a good immunity and to always up your stamina,” says Delhi-born singer Akriti Kakar who sang the remix “Rangeela re” and “Chham se wo aa jaye” from the movie Dus . A balanced diet coupled with a healthy sleeping pattern keeps the singer fit all day long and makes her more energetic.
Trained in Hindustani classical music, Akriti has sung for almost all the known music composers of Bollywood. She has just lent her voice for the song “Iski-Uski” a Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy composition from the movie 2 States . Passionate about the prospects of this song, Akriti says everyone will love this as it touches our emotions. The singer considers music most precious and passionate gift from her mother.
A regular yoga practitioner, Akriti focuses mainly on breathing exercises which increase lung power, which in turn helps hugely in singing. “I try to balance the food in terms of ensuring correct nutrient intake and prefer simple food,” says the singer. Simple food includes leafy vegetables and homemade food basically.
Asked about her vocal fitness for different genre of songs, Akriti says, “I keep doing my riyaz without fail and don’t compromise on it even while travelling. Plus, like my gurus have told me, I try to keep listening to music from across the globe to keep adding freshness to my approach. It somewhere helps”. Attributing equal importance to physical as well as mental fitness, the singer says while the former keeps one’s stamina always high, the latter means being calm and always getting innovative ideas from every walk of life. “I keep myself hydrated always and try sneaking out for a walk every now and then to breathe some fresh air. It also opens my mind to newer ideas,” says the singer.
