I learn the recipe for Kollu dosai from my mother-in-law. This is a healthy option dish since horse gram helps in reducing weight and keeps a check on cholesterol levels when taken regularly.

What you need

Raw rice/Idli rice - 2 cups

Horse gram - 2 cups

Black gram - 4 tbsp

Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 tbsp

Red chillies - 6

Onions, small - 10

Ginger - 1 inch

Garlic pods - 5

Asafoetida - 1/2 tbsp

Salt - 2 tbsp

Curry leaves – a few

Cooking oil – as required

Cooking instructions

Soak raw rice, horse gram, black gram and fenugreek seeds together for about two hours.

Wash and rinse thoroughly.

Grind the gram to a fine batter with red chillies, small onions, ginger, garlic pods and curry leaves.

Add asafoetida and salt and let ferment for about two-three hours.

Heat a tawa and spread the batter as you would for a dosai.

Add cooking oil and let cook till the dosai turns golden brown.

Remove from tawa and serve with gunpowder (idli podi) and jaggery.
