Returning Officer of the constituency V. Dakshinamoorthy said that 233 complaints have been received over phone at the election control room till Tuesday morning. Most of the complaints pertained to distribution of cash, gifts for votes. “We conducted an inquiry on 146 of them. We could not get proof for the complaints.
There were a few incidents when we got wrong information too. We are trying our best to visit all the places from where we received complaints and check the distribution of cash and gifts for votes,” he said. Efforts were under way to probe the remaining 87 complaints.
Code violationSixteen were registered against political parties for violating the model code of conduct till Monday. According to the election department, the maximum number of cases were registered against the AIADMK (7) followed by the DMK, and DMDK (4 each), and one case against the Congress.
TokensBut for the seizure of 50 tokens given to a few persons for filling fuel for Rs. 100 from a petrol bunk, near the National Highway near Velur town, by the AIADMK, recently, there were no incidents of cash or gifts distributed to voters — that were recorded in the constituency. A case was registered against the AIADMK town secretary who is also the chairman of the Town Panchayat.
