Industrial associations here have welcomed the State budget proposals to improve infrastructure and to focus on skill training.

President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, D. Nandakumar has said that use of LED lamps is on the increase across all sectors as it helps in energy conservation. By reducing VAT on LED lamps, the cost will come down and it will help the industries.

Budgetary allocations for roads and smart city formation are not specific to any district or region now. “We hope Coimbatore will be one of the 12 municipal corporations that will get funds under the Smart City formation,” he said.

Some of the major demands related to VAT from the industries in the region have been addressed and it will boost the manufacturing sector.

According to V. Lakshminarayanaswamy, president of Southern India Engineering Manufacturers’ Association, proposals for the power sector, agricultural sector, skill development and first generation entrepreneurs will help in development of the State.
