Students of Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College in Coimbatore cleaning their institution premises on Saturday as part of Coimbatore Vizha.

More than 1,800 persons including corporates, employees of various firms, representatives of various voluntary organisations, school and college students participated in a cleanliness drive ‘Garbage Free City’ that was organised on Saturday as part of Coimbatore Vizha celebration.

During the drive, volunteers cleaned the premises of a few government and private schools and Mankarai check-post. A heritage walk in old Coimbatore was also organised on Saturday. R. Jagadeesan of The Vanavarayar Foundation guided the participants in the small tour that started from Koniamman Temple. The participants visited Clock Tower, Town Hall, few important heritage structures and places of worship on the Oppanakara Street, Vysial Street, KG Street, Raja Street, RG Street and Five Corner. During the walk the participants were explained the importance of the buildings and when they were built. The reason behind the names of the streets in those areas was also explained.
