Coimbatore Corporation revises UGD usage charges

July 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - COIMBATORE:

In an effort to bring about uniformity in underground drainage usage charges and deposit for those residents who already have the facility, those residents who will be getting it soon and those in added areas, the Coimbatore Corporation has revised the fee.

As per the new proposal, residents who pay less than Rs. 500 in property tax for houses will have to pay Rs. 250 a year as usage charges and a one-time deposit of Rs. 3,000. The maximum for residents is Rs. 50,000 a year and a one-time deposit of Rs. 1 lakh.

As for non-residential building, the minimum usage charge is Rs. 500 a year and maximum is Rs. 75,000.

For commercial buildings, the minimum is Rs. 50,000 a year and maximum is Rs. 1 lakh a year. To ensure the passage of the subject, Mayor, P. Rajkumar, and Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan, said that the civic body has been forced to revise the usage charges and deposit because during the previous administration things were done surreptitiously, which was discovered only later.

The charges will come into effect the day the Corporation publishes the charges in the district gazette. Protesting against the passage of the subject, CPI (M) councillor V. Ramamoorthy (Ward 42), Congress councillors and BJP councillors staged a walkout.
