Coimbatore Mayor pulls up officials

July 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Mayor P. Rajkumar on Monday pulled up officials, particularly those from the engineering section, for their poor performance. He even went to the extent of saying that if their performance was found to be less than satisfactory he would not hesitate to suspend them.

His outburst came after repeated complaints from councillors that engineers were not taking forward the works the council approved. They were not readying estimates for approved works, or floating tenders for works for which estimates had been prepared or ensuring execution of works for which contracts have been awarded.

Leading the assault on engineers was Ward 28 councillor S.R. Arjunan, who said that despite his running from pillar-to-post for the past seven months, the engineers had not even carried out the preliminary work.

This made him wonder if he was a ruling party (AIADMK) councillor or an opposition councillor.
