Thirty-two pumps used to illegally transfer liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from domestic cylinders for use as fuel in four-wheelers were seized from a car gas kit conversion dealer at Nava India on Avinashi Road in the city on Tuesday.
Ten domestic cooking gas cylinders were also seized.
Tip-offOfficials led by District Supply Officer (DSO) P. Chidambaram conducted the raid based on a tip-off. Flying Squad officials and the Deputy Manager (Sales), of Indian Oil Corporation, K. Govindarajan and Assistant Manager (Sales), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Mahadevappa deputed by BPCL’s Territory Manager Pradeep Nair were also present during the raid.
The DSO said that a domestic cylinder with 14.2 kilograms of LPG is sold at a subsidised price of Rs. 402.
A commercial cylinder with 19 kgs of LPG costs around Rs. 1,800.
“Some of the consumers brought LPG cylinders to the unit from their homes to fill their vehicle fuel tanks. These consumers were charged about Rs. 50 per cylinder as conversion charge,” he said.
Mr. Chidambaram added that other customers bought the LPG sold at subsidised price for Rs. 800.
He said that the Civil Supply CID has registered a case in this connection.
He said that they have received a tip-off on a similar incident in the city and they will soon conduct a raid.
