Members of Friends of Police (FoP) unit, who came on bicycles from Chennai to Tirupur city, spreading the FoP concept, told The Hindu that they were gearing up for the next major expedition from Kanyakumari to the base of Mount Kailash in the Tibetian range.
On Tuesday, as many as 52 members of FoP were here in the Knit City as part of the 2,200 km cycle rally they commenced in Chennai earlier this month, to commemorate the completion of 20 years of the inception of FoP concept in the State.
“The rally is scheduled to conclude near Chennai on July 29 after touching places across the State. En route, we are telling the concepts of FoP to the people and encouraging more people to join the FoP bandwagon that is aimed at motivating the common people to assist the police in crime detection and other activities,” said D. Mahendran, the team leader of the rally and an FoP member for almost one-and-a-half decades.
In Tirupur, the City Police Commissioner S. N. Seshasai gave away T-shirts as memorabilia to the 52 members of the rally team and appreciated the efforts taken by them to bring the police and the people closer together.
