The Tamil Nadu Government Doctors’ Association, Coimbatore Unit, staged a protest here on Wednesday condemning the attitude of a village health nurse of Alangudi Primary Health Centre in Tiruvarur district.

The association alleged during review meeting last week, the nurse did not respond properly to questions from a woman Block Medical Officer, who had sought medical reports for reference.

The medical officer was allegedly manhandled by the nurse, who was reportedly irregular at work.

The Block Medical Officer had submitted a report.

However, instead of taking action against the nurse, the Public Health Department transferred the medical officer and two office assistants, the association said.

Aggrieved over this, the association led by N. Ravi Shankar, president of TNGDA, Coimbatore district unit, staged a protest in front of the Public Health Department office here on Wednesday and also wore black badges to work. Doctors from Government hospitals, primary health centres, Government dispensaries and Coimbatore Medical College took part in the protest.
