An awareness programme on human-elephant conflict was held at Kuppapalayam in Booluvampatti Range near here on Saturday.
It was the first in the series of such programmes planned to be held under ‘Operation Matanga’, a project to conserve elephants and evolve ways to reduce human-elephant conflicts, launched recently in The Nilgiris by Wildlife and Nature Conservation Trust (WNCT).
Experts on elephant behaviour and a few other volunteers interacted with the villagers during the programme. WNCT founder N. Sadiq said that they would be working with the Forest Department to deploy early warning system in the village to warn the residents about the movement of elephants.
