Preet Singh Choudhary (22) from Nangal Ladi village, near Jaipur in Rajasthan, petitioned the city police here, on Monday, to help him get back Rs. 2 lakh that he paid to a man from Kovaipudur last year.
He claimed that the job facilitator N. Vengadasalam cheated a few more persons in a similar fashion. Mr. Choudhary, who completed B.Tech Marine Engineering worked in a couple of firms at Abu Dhabi and Singapore before he found the contact details of the facilitator from Coimbatore (online) in April 2014.
The petitioner’s father gave Rs. 2 lakh to the facilitator in May 2014 – Rs. 52,000 in cash and transferred Rs. 1.48 lakh online. The aspirant claimed that Vengadasalam gave an affidavit for receiving the money and a cheque for Rs. 2 lakh as an assurance to return the money if he could not get the job for Mr. Choudhary.
In October, Vengadasalam gave an offer letter for the post of production supervisor at Jurong Shipyard Pte Ltd, Singapore, claimed to be signed by Executive Director of the shipyard.
It offered a basic salary of 2,200 Singapore Dollars per month and the job was on a contract for five years. Mr. Choudhary contacted the company and came to know that the offer letter was forged.
“From November last year I tried to get back my money from him, but was unsuccessful,” he said and added that he has shuttled between his village and Coimbatore more than a dozen times to get the money. He claimed that the facilitator gave him three cheques one after the other after every cheque bounced. He then petitioned officials at the Police Commissioner’s office and the case was referred to Kuniyamuthur police station, who inquired both sides last week.
It is learnt that Vengadasalam gave an assurance in the presence of the police that he would return the money in a couple of days. The petitioner claimed that the facilitator did not return the money, but allegedly threatened him not to try getting back the money. Hence he came back to Police Commissioner’s office on Monday.
Deputy Commissioner (Crime) R.V. Ramya Bharathi said that an inspector had been asked to inquire with the petitioner and the opposite party.
