Man held for cheating employer

A. Dhanapal (32), a manager of a leading electronics showroom on the Sathy Road, was arrested on Saturday on the charge of cheating his employer to the tune of Rs. 14.93 lakh between January and June. The money has been recovered from him. A case has been registered against him under sections 408 (Criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code.

Construction worker dies

Devendira Singh (55), a construction worker of Karungalpalayam in Erode, succumbed to his injuries on ribs he received during work at a construction site at Podipalayam Road at Madukkarai on Thursday.

The police said that he fell from a 9ft high wall on Thursday.

On Saturday, he developed pain on his ribs.

He died on way to hospital. A case has been registered against the manager and accountant of the construction firm.

Cigarettes seized

Customs officials seized 1,880 packets of cigarettes from Abu Thahir (43) of Madurai who arrived at the Coimbatore airport on Sunday from Sharjah.

Case against employee

The Police on Saturday registered a case against P. Sathishkumar, a lift operator of a private company at S.Mettupalayam near Kinathukadavu, on the charges of stealing nickel plates weighing 288 kg worth Rs. 1.4 lakh from the company where he was working. He is yet to be arrested.
