Texprocil appeal to Centre

July 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - COIMBATORE:

The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (Texprocil) has urged the Union Government to include all varieties of knitted fabric under the Merchandise Exports from India scheme to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Council chairman R.K. Dalmia has said in a press release that the Government recently included knitted and woven cotton fabrics under the scheme.

With a growing garment industry in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the demand for fabric is high.

“India can play a big role by supplying fabrics to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka garment manufacturers as India is stronger in fabrics and Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are stronger in garment manufacturing,” he said.

Impetus

The Government should add value-added fabrics (such as some of the cotton blended, printed and dyed varieties) to the list covered under the export benefit scheme to African countries. These measures will give the much needed impetus to exports in otherwise adverse conditions in major markets, he said.
