Two held for duping investors

The City Cyber Crime Cell has arrested a man, and wife who are insurance agents of a private firm on charges of allegedly purchasing a mobile phone under one of their customers’ name.

According to the police, Karthik Subramaniam (35), and wife K. Radhika (32) had obtained the financial details and PAN card of Kavitha (35) under the pretext of getting her a policy. They used her PAN card to purchase a mobile phone costing Rs. 55,000 from a shop in Gandhipuram. They paid an initial sum of Rs. 22,000, and opted to pay the rest in instalments. When they failed to pay the dues, the shop sent a letter of Kavitha. Subsequently, she filed a police complaint.

The Cyber Crime Cell registered a case on Monday under Sections 419 (cheating by personation), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) and 420 (cheating) of Indian Penal Code.

Radhika has been granted bail.

Mess owner held

The owner of a mess has been booked after a college student fell into a pit used for dumping garbage, and died.

According to the police, C. Gokul Kumar (20), a third-year student of a private college here, had gone with his friends to the mess for a birthday party on Monday night.

He went to the shops backyard to answer the nature’s call. He fell into a pit used by the shop to dump garbage. Three other students who tried to help him have been hospitalised. The police have registered a case against S. Parthasarathy (49) of Kinathukadavu, who was the mess owner under Sections 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety) and 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
