The political ad war in the Capital is all set to heat up with the Bharatiya Janata Party preparing a series of banners and radio advertisements to counter the Aam Aadmi Party claims. Following the aggressive advertisement campaign launched by the Arvind Kejriwal government, the BJP has now buckled up and is pulling out all the stops to increase its visibility across Delhi.

The Delhi BJP office is witnessing brainstorming sessions almost every day. Party leaders are seen instructing workers of all the mandals to sponsor and put up hoardings against the Chief Minister.

Samples of the BJP ads with The Hindu indicate that it is going to hit out at the AAP on its promise to ensure women safety and ad expenditure. “Respected Chief Minister, with folded hands we request you to not turn Delhi into a political battlefield, develop the Capital,” reads one sample. Another says, “Installing CCTV cameras, setting up fast-track courts and marshals in buses are under your jurisdiction. First fulfil these promises.”

Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay said, “By this weekend our posters will be put up and we shall give a befitting reply to the AAP government. We shall expose the CM through radio ads as well. Mr. Kejriwal is not helping the people of Delhi through these repeated self-praising ads in any way. His main motive is to increase his reach to Punjab and Bihar which are going to polls in a few months. .”

Having a limited budget, the party does not plan to go for television ads. Sources said the party has kept a target of around 1,000 banners to be put up across the city. While around 500 will be put by the Delhi BJP, the remaining will be arranged by the various mandals. The first posters of the party have already been put up by BJP national secretary R.P. Singh. The poster reads, “The Kejriwal government has created history by joining hands with corrupt and fake degree holder.” Another hoarding says, “Mr. Sisodia, stop creating ruckus in the Capital and do some work.”

The AAP government had left no stone unturned in hitting out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung. Mr. Kejriwal had justified allocating Rs 525 crore for publicity and advertisements by blaming the media for not giving positive coverage to the achievements of the government. In television ads being played on most channels, one can see Mr. Kejriwal pleading with the PM, asking him to give the control of the Delhi Police to the State government.
