“Pull out 2,400 flats meant for EWS”

September 02, 2014 09:53 am | Updated November 16, 2021 05:50 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Congress on Monday alleged that 2,400 single-bedroom flats in Dwarka, which were earmarked for the economically weaker section (EWS) by the previous Congress government, have now been put up for sale under the general category in the DDA Housing Scheme 2014.

The flats in Dwarka sector 23 were constructed by the DDA through per-fabricated technique and a function was organised in January, 2012, attended by senior Cabinet ministers of the UPA government, to announce allotment of these flats to residents of the JJ clusters in Vikaspuri .

Referring to document proofs like advertisements published by the DDA in newspapers about the inauguration , former West Delhi MP Mahabal Mishra said, “It was principally agreed that these flats would be given to the slum dwellers. Over 2,000 families living in the slums, particularly in Vikas Puri , were assured that these flats would be allotted to them . We urge the L-G to immediately pull out these flats from the DDA scheme and allot them to the already identified beneficiaries.”

Accusing the BJP-led Central government of adopting anti-poor policies, the Congress leaders threatened that they would hit the streets if the decision was not reverted in a week.
