Foggy day: 59 flights delayed, no relief in sight

December 20, 2014 08:27 am | Updated 08:27 am IST - NEW DELHI:

It was a cold, foggy day in the city on Friday with dense fog reported across the national Capital region. Officials at the meteorological department said this was due to a western disturbance as there was an upper air cyclonic circulation over Jammu & Kashmir and adjoining north Pakistan.

The weather disrupted flight services at the Indira Gandhi International Airport with the arrival of 59 flights being delayed by over 15 minutes due to fog, said airport officials.

The maximum temperature settled at five degrees below normal at 17.6 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 7.4 degrees Celsius that was one degree below normal.

Officials at the Met department said that foggy conditions are likely to continue but the maximum temperature will possibly rise by two to three degrees. The minimum will remain the same.

They also reported that a fresh western disturbance is approaching the North-Western region of the country, which would cause fairly widespread precipitation over western Himalayan region from December 21 onwards that may impact the weather in the city.
