A day after 29-year-old Manipuri man Akha Salouni was allegedly beaten to death, his family members and a large number of people from the Northeast held a candlelight vigil at Jantar Mantar here.

Among those who came forward to express solidarity with the family of the deceased was the mother of Nido Tania, another youth from the region, who was thrashed to death in South Delhi in January this year.

The protesters said that the trend of targeting people from the Northeast, who are staying in Delhi, was not only worrying but makes them wonder why such incidents were occurring with such frequency.

The police meanwhile have made the fourth arrest in the case.

The arrested person has been identified as Azad Chaudhary. Azad works as a driver and lives in Garhi, as did the three others. The police have, however, not confirmed whether he was the one driving the car the assailants were travelling at the time of the alleged assault.

Section 153-A of the Prevention of Atrocities against Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Act has also been included in the FIR.

The post-mortem report had established that the victim had received multiple internal injuries.
