An RTI application on the status of petitions and applications filed with it has unravelled the wilful contempt of law of the land by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

The Lok Satta GHMC unit, which filed an RTI about pending applications, brought out the fact that there are more than 8,500 applications awaiting disposal with the civic body.

Releasing the details to the media here on Thursday, the Lok Satta party leaders said 8,529 grievances and applications are awaiting a reply from the GHMC, which is rule-bound to clear an application within one day to 15 days timeframe as announced by it. The civic body website, in fact, proclaims that if a grievance was not solved within the stipulated time, a penalty of Rs.50 per day would be paid to the aggrieved citizen, said party leaders Lavanya, Surendra and B. Sambi Reddy. Though birth and death certificates are expected to be issued within seven days, 67 applications were pending even after a one year period, they said.
