Cops crack 14-year-old murder mystery

July 25, 2014 12:53 am | Updated 12:53 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The city police claimed to have solved the mystery behind a murder reported 14 years ago at Kondapur in Sangareddy with the arrest of two history sheeters on Thursday. The police seized two country-made pistols and four rounds of ammunition from them.

Additional DCP (Task Force) B. Limba Reddy told reporters that accused Mohd. Habeeb Khan (42) and Ahmed Shamshuddin (35), both history sheeters of Bahadurpura police station, had robbed a trader of Rs.10 lakh at Mahaboob Chowk in 2000.

A local resident, Asif, who saw them committing the crime, tried to blackmail them, threatening to tip the police off.

“Ahmed and Habeeb had hatched a plan to eliminate Asif as he was regularly demanding money. They picked him up from the city and took him to Sadashivpet in Medak where they killed him, dumped his body at a remote place and set it ablaze,” the DCP said.

A murder case was registered in this regard at Kondapur police station in October 2000.

The incident came to light only on Thursday when the police nabbed them following information of the duo moving with country-made firearms at Kishanbagh. During questioning, both of them confessed to have committed the murder. They were handed over to Bahadurpura police station for further investigation.
