Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao has said that the government is committed to the welfare of the police force and will provide all assistance to the department.
Addressing, the State level Police Commemoration Day parade held at Gosha Mahal stadium in Hyderabad on Tuesday, Mr. Rao said that development of any State government depends on the law and order situation. “The role of police is important in the development of the State and investors are also looking at law and order situation prior to starting projects here. In such a scenario it is necessary that the police continue to perform their duties well,” the Chief Minister said.
He also announced a slew of incentives for the police force. The ceiling on medical reimbursement scheme has been revised and fixed at Rs. 5 lakh and Rs. 7.5 lakh, free health check ups for policemen aged over 45 years, increasing the ‘feeding charges’ paid to them from Rs. 90 to Rs. 250 and starting State police canteen where goods sold will be exempted from VAT and incentive of Rs. 5 lakh to recipients of gallantry medals. In addition, the SI level officers will soon be brought under the Gazetted officer’s grade, he said.
“The State government has also constituted a committee to look into the demands of the police personnel and a decision will be taken based on its report,” Mr. Rao assured. The government will also be giving 50,000 mobile phones with CUG facility to all ranks of policemen in the State for better communication.
Mr. Rao announced increasing the ex-gratia paid to the families of the police who die while performing their duties. The kin of the martyred constables and head constables ASI’s rank will get Rs. 40 lakhs, SI’s – Rs. 45 lakh, Inspectors, DSP and ASP’s – Rs. 50 lakh and IPS officials – Rs. 1 crore.
“The family members will also be paid full salaries till retirement date and housing and educational needs of their children will be taken care by the government. Unlike before, we will ensure that the ex-gratia is paid to the family within a week,” Mr. Rao said.
Later, the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy, Director General of Police Anurag Sharma and other senior officials placed wreath at the Police Martyrs memorial.
