Employees working at the 18 MW captive power generation station of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) in Ramagundam region staged a dharna on Thursday over alleged remarks made by an officer and thrashing of an apprentice employee on Wednesday evening.

Sources said that engineer Ramakrishna had reportedly thrashed an ITI trainee apprentice employee Venkateshwarlu over a petty issue. On Thursday, the union members, led by Y Sathaiah (HMS), staged a dharna demanding action against the engineer.

When the engineer abstained from his duties on Thursday, AGM Raghuram tendered apologies on behalf of the engineer and assured to take initiatives to prevent such incidents in future. Later, the employees resumed their duties.
