Goshamahal constituency is no exception to the political noise that takes place every five years in its lanes and by-lanes when contesting candidates come out to seek votes. And this time the fight is clearly between the outgoing Congress MLA M. Mukesh Goud and BJP contest T. Raja Singh.
Both camps are leaving no stone unturned to win. Mr. Singh, who is also the current Magalhat division corporator, is campaigning with the slogan ‘ Kamal ke nishan ko vote do ’ (vote for the flower symbol) and for a ‘ Congress mukt Bharat’ . Going from house to house, his cavalcade had left people staring from outside their homes at Muralidhar Bagh in Koti on Thursday evening.
“I wonder if Raja Singh will develop the area as he is saying. Mukesh Goud has been here for so long and he rarely visits. However, I suppose he should get one chance to prove himself,” said Raj Kumar, resident of Muralidhar Bagh, as he watched Mr. Singh pass by his home. As the BJP candidate spoke, one could not miss the potshots he took at Mr. Goud, who he claimed, did not do much work in his constituency.
Mr. Goud’s campaign, however, is in contrast to Mr. Singh. A band of drummers fill the surroundings with noise, as he walks into each house to greet and ask residents to vote for him at Hindi Nagar on Friday morning. Savitri (name changed), who sells vegetables outside her house in the area had an amused look after the posse left. “Last time he took a picture with me holding a cabbage and this time it is a brinjal,” she laughed, recalling that the last time the MLA visited was five years ago.
