The Board of Directors of the Kerala State Cooperative Consumers’ Federation, which met here on Wednesday, requested P. Venugopal, Special Secretary, Department of Cooperation, to make an inquiry into allegations against the Board members.
The Board asked Mr. Venugopal, who was present at the meeting here, to conduct an inquiry and bring out the truth, said president of the apex consumer cooperative Joy Thomas.
He claimed that the allegations were baseless and aimed at disgracing the Board members.
The allegations, he said, were a smokescreen created by vested interests.
The Board also urged the State government to foot a subsidy bill of Rs.30 crore for the special fares that will be opened for the Ramzan and Onam festival seasons.
The consumer cooperative plans to open Ramzan fares for 10 days offering 15 items at the same rate at which they are sold by the Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation. Onam fares will be opened for 17 days offering the same 15 items.
