: Steps will be taken soon to integrate staff at the Government Medical College, Ernakulam, into the government fold , said the Health Secretary K. Elangovan.

Taking stock of the operational, human resources and administrative problems at the medical college, Mr. Elangovan said that most of these will be addressed within a month. The college was taken over in December 2013 from the administration of Cooperative Academy of Professional Education.

Visiting the medical college on Thursday he held meetings with the Principal in-charge, teachers, non-teaching staff and nursing college staff.

Ironing out problems in labour room maintenance, integration of staff and post creation in nursing college were among the issues discussed. The Health Secretary had suggested that Hospital Development Society utilise the funds in the college to maintain the facilities and renovate areas that require urgent attention.

He had also asked the college authorities to furnish details about employees on contract, who had completed five and ten years of service in the college.
