Kavitha Pillai refuses to turn up for interrogation

April 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - KOCHI:

The probe into a bribery case involving police officers and medical seat scam accused Kavitha Pillai received another setback with Pillai refusing to undergo interrogation for the second time on Monday.

“She has turned down our directions to appear for an interrogation on both occasions. The matter will be reported to the Vigilance director and further action will be taken based on his directions,” said K.M. Antony, Superintendent of Police of the VACB Kochi unit.

The department is yet to serve a legal summons to her, also an accused in a couple of other cases. The delay in her interrogation has also hit the agency’s plans to submit its final report in the Thrissur Vigilance Court this week.

Earlier on April 24, she turned down a direction by the investigators to appear before them, stating that she had to appear before a court in connection with another case. The VACB has so far recorded statements of the two petitioners and police officers involved in the alleged bribery case.

Officials are of the view that she has been refusing to appear for the interrogation fearing arrest. “The statements given by the policemen confirm her role in the racket and her statements are crucial in establishing the roles played by the policemen,” they said, adding that they also discovered discrepancies in the operation of the shadow wing of the city police.
