CB-CID ordered to reopen probe

April 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - Madurai:

The Madras High Court Bench here on Friday directed the Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) to reopen the investigation into the murder of an elderly couple for gain at Perumalpuram in Tirunelveli district on September 29, 2011.

Justice S. Nagamuthu passed the order following a petition filed by the couple’s son, K. Senthil Vinayagam, serving as Kacheepuram District Environmental Engineer, who claimed that the CB-CID had termed the case “undetected” and closed the investigation on January 17 this year.

Stating that the case was transferred from the local police to the CB-CID on May 13, 2012, he alleged that the latter had “simply kept the matter pending for three years without taking any action and subsequently closed it as undetected despite the grave nature of the offence”.
