HC orders compensation for kin of dairy farmer

After the recent award of Rs. 9.6 lakh to the parents of a Class VI student who drowned in a Corporation swimming pool here in 2009, the Madras High Court Bench here has now granted a compensation of Rs. 4.92 lakh to the family of a dairy farmer who died due to electrocution and Rs. 5.1 lakh for the death of a college student at a National Service Scheme (NSS) camp.

Separate orders

Passing separate orders on individual writ petitions filed by family members of the victims, Justice V.M. Velumani held the Madurai Corporation and the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) jointly responsible for the death of the 55-year-old dairy farmer, Subramani, when he touched an electric post on Mahalipatti Road here on August 6, 2011.
