The temperature in Madurai city touched a low of 29 degree Celsius on Thursday, and the weather will continue to be cool and pleasant for the next few days with a forecast of 28 degree Celsius predicted for Friday.

Rainfall has been predicted for the southern districts in the next few days.

The weather in the city has brought immense cheer to the residents with cloudy skies dominating daytime on Wednesday and Thursday.

The city witnessed cloudy skies in the last two days with a few pockets experiencing light drizzle in the evenings.

“The minimum temperature during the nights is even lower and it has been very cold for the last few days,” a resident of S.S. Colony said.

Early morning walkers who frequent Eco Park and Vandiyur Walker’s Park were seen heading out later than usual due to mist.

Many chose to wear earmuffs and mufflers.

The Indian Metrological Department forecast that the minimum temperature would touch 21 degree Celsius on Thursday here.

Strong breeze persisted in the evening and mist hung over the areas near the banks of the Vaigai after 4 p.m.

Buses were seen plying with lights on inside after 4 p.m. owing to the darkness.

Met department forecast that the district would receive an average rainfall of 20 mm to 25 mm in the next five days.

While the district has already received more than 650 mm rainfall till the beginning of November, 80 mm more is said to be needed to avoid a rainfall deficit.
